The llms.txt Files
Every APIMatic developer portal publishes llms.txt and llms-full.txt so AI tools can read your documentation.
llms.txt is a standard way for a website to describe itself to AI tools. Every APIMatic developer portal publishes two of these files automatically, alongside sitemap.xml. There's nothing to configure.
The files
| File | What it contains |
|---|---|
/llms.txt | A list of every page in the portal, grouped the way the sidebar is (your guides, SDKs, and API Reference). Each entry has the page title, a link, and its one-line description. |
/llms-full.txt | The full text of every page in one file, including guides, API reference pages, and code samples. |
Both files are rebuilt every time you run apimatic portal generate, so they always match the portal. The descriptions in llms.txt come from the description in each page's front matter, so keep those short and specific.
Where they're served
The files are served from the root of the portal:
https://docs.example.com/llms.txt
https://docs.example.com/llms-full.txtIf you host the portal under a path, set the full address in portal.site.url and the files are served under that path, for example https://example.com/docs/llms.txt.
Check them
- Generate the portal with
apimatic portal generateand deploy it. - Open
/llms.txtand/llms-full.txton the portal's address. - Point an AI assistant at either file and ask it a question about your API.
